The G20 Leaders’ Summit is held in India for the first time in 2023 as India takes over the G20 Presidency on December 1st, 2022, from Indonesia.
Being a country that is firmly committed to both democracy and multilateralism, India’s G20 Presidency would mark a turning point in its history. India wants to play a significant role by identifying viable global solutions for the well-being of all, and in doing so, to truly embody the idea that “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or the “World is One Family.”

As India assumes G20 presidency, 100 ASI sites to be lit up till Dec 7

In India, there are a total of 40 cultural and natural sites that have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The remaining sites are under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
In honor of India assuming the G-20 presidency on Thursday, hundreds of government protected sites will be illuminated and emblazoned with the G-20 insignia from December 1 to December 7 throughout the nation. A senior official told news agency ANI that 100 ASI sites, including those on the UNESCO World Heritage List, would be illuminated for one week. According to him, the nature and layout of the location will determine the size of the logo projected on the monuments.

The logo will be shown at the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Fathepur Sikri—all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites—on a neighbouring unipole. The Hall and Currency Building in Kolkata, the ruins of Nalanda University, the monuments at Rajgir in Bihar, the Basilica of Bom Jesus and Church of  Lady of Rosary in Goa, Tipu Sultan’s Palace and the Gol Gumbaz in Karnataka, the Buddhist sites of Sanchi, and the Gwalior Fort in Madhya Pradesh are some additional sites.
The G-20 presidency was acquired by India on December 1st. For India’s G20 presidency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed a logo, a theme, and a website on November 8. The Earth is depicted perched atop a lotus, its seven petals representing the seven seas and the union of the seven continents. The logo was designed using the four colours of the national flag.

The theme is – Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: One Earth, One Family, One Future.
Apart from India, the G20 Comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, as well as the European Union.
