History of Nagaur Cattle Fair

The Jodhpur Nagaur Fair is the second biggest fair in India. The fair goes on for eight days. Nagaur Fair of Jodhpur, Rajasthan is held every year during the month of Jan-Feb.

It is popularly known as the Cattle fair of Nagaur. This is because the Nagaur Fair is mainly all about trading of animals. Approximately 70,000 bullocks, camels and horses are traded every year in this fair. The animals lavishly decorated and even their owners dress up wearing colorful turbans and long moustaches. Other trading in the Nagaur Fair in Jodhpur, India consists of sheep to Marwari horses to spices. Some other attractions include the Mirchi bazaar (largest red-chilly market of India), wooden items, iron-crafts and camel leather accessories.

There is a lot of sports activity also in the fair. The sports range from tug-of-war, camel races to bullock races to cock fights. Nagaur fair is also famous for its jugglers, puppeteers, storytellers, etc. For further entertainment, there is the folk music of the Jodhpur echoing throughout the fair.

DAY 01:DELHI

Central Delhi where ornate buildings recall the days when India was the Jewel in the crown of the British Empire. Visit India Gate and the grand government buildings, the President’s House and Laxmi Narayan temple.

After lunch break.

Visit Qutub Minar and India’s largest temple – Swami Narayan Akshardham temple.

Night stay in Delhi.

DAY 03 : Delhi – Agra (220 Kms/04 Hrs)

After breakfast, drive to Agra. On arrival check in at the hotel.

Later you have sightseeing of Agra with Guide.

Note: Taj Mahal closed on Friday.

Explore Taj Mahal first: TAJ MAHAL- the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, built it in 1631 in the memory of his second wife, Mumtaj Mahal.

After lunch.

You will proceed to visit Agra fort – the rusty and majestic red-sandstone fort of Agra stands on the banks of the river Yamuna and the construction was started by Emperor Akbar in 1566.

Evening, free for your won, you can visit local market of Agra.

Night stay in Agra.

DAY 04: Agra – Fatehpur Sikri – Jaipur (245 Kms/05 Hrs)

After breakfast, drive to Jaipur enroute visiting Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar in 1569, visit – Tomb of Salim Chishti, Panch Mahal and other palaces.

Later drive to Pink city Jaipur, on arrival check in at the hotel.

Night stay in Jaipur.

DAY 05: Jaipur

After early breakfast, Visit Amber fort – Amber is the classic romantic Rajasthani fort palace. Its construction was started by Man Singh I in 1592, and completed by his descendent Jai Singh. Elephant ride ascent to the fort.

Later you have sightseeing of Jaipur city tour with Guide.

Visit: City palace, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal (Water Palace) and Birla Temple.

Later in the evening you can move around traditional colorful market of Jaipur.

Finally come back to hotel and Night stay in Jaipur.

DAY 06:  Jaipur  – Nagaur Drive (235 Kms/04 Hrs)

After breakfast, drive to Nagaur.

on arrival check in at the hotel.

How is Nagaur Cattle Fair Celebrated?

This second-largest cattle fair of the country lasts for four to ten days.

Each day, the fair begins with cattle activities and attractions to make the sellers show off their cattle. Each dealer will have his own shed or camp where he stores his animals. The buyers walk through the sheds to choose and bargain. By sunset, most of the buyers would leave the place and the sellers will stay back with their animals. After sunset, the cultural programs and celebration starts. The games and markets will be open during the day time.
